Château de Fesles was built at the top of the third highest hill in the Loire Valley.
From the start, the Château had the privilege to benefi t from young vines which would later help create the appellation Bonnezeaux, the sweet wine for which the Château is acclaimed. According to archives, the monks from Gué-de-Berge first mentioned Bonnezeaux in1055.
In 1991, the property was entirely restored. Since then, the excellent quality of the installed equipment has made it a reference in Anjou, and it is one of the most respected properties in the region.
The Château looks down onto the Layon river.
On the plateau, the main red grape variety is Cabernet Franc, destined to become Anjou Rouge “vieilles vignes” (old vines), and Chenin Blanc for the whites.
The development of botrytis (noble rot), an essential element for the production of Bonnezeaux, is helped by the proximity of the river which means that the vines are often wreathed in fog in the autumn mornings.
